So, not one single person has posted to the Comic Con News journal, making me question whether or not anyone either cared for my notes, specifically the quality of them, or at all. To be frank my dear, I don't give a damn. Honestly though, what I wrote was as it was in the particular panels. Unfortunately the guidebook did not say who the majority of the panelists would be, and I was unable to write the names down as fast as the people were introduced. In addition, during the first day I learned that my voice recorder could not capture the sound well enough unless it was against my mouth like a microphone. In addition, the video camera footage I still haven't viewed, but the battery life was too short to film more than one panel a day, and even then, not in full. Without a place to plug it in to run on the adapter's power, I was forced to choose whether or not to even both with it. I decided on the latter. If any wish to know more about the other panels I attended, or ask me about my thoughts on the current ones uploaded, please don't hesitate to note me or post your inquiries to this or the respective journals.
Overall, I did enjoy the convention immensely. I got to see JunoBean
Other people I got to see were D.J. Coffman of Yirmumah! and Hero By Night!!! Not only did I get the first four issues in one hardcover bound copy for $10 (individual issues selling for $3 at the con, and $4 outside it, but not in MN) signed by DJ, but he also drew a free custom drawing for me, and I was the first one to get a drawing from him at the con! He was a very pleasant person to talk to, surprised that I had read his earlier Yirmumah! stuff and was a fan of his even before Hero By Night, and did an excellent job on the sketch. I might even upload a picture of it to dA with me holding it sometime soon. Or I might not. I guess a lot of you don't follow webcomics as diligently as I do, but it was a big thing for me. Funny story about the illustration, actuallyDJ drew the entire thing on his knees! No joke. And before you chastise me, I didn't ask or force him to draw it that way. XD One of the fellow creators at his booth was being interviewed while we talked, and when he finally could get behind the booth he still didn't have a seat. Six guys with only three chairs is not the best ration. Regardless, DJ asked me what I wanted drawn, telling he'd draw anything if he had a reference, and I gave my request: A drawing of me and Hero By Night in a panel together. He took an picture of me on his IPhone and began to work immediately. It's hard exactly to describe it and give it justice, but basically it's me looking more bad-ass than I really do, wearing a backpack and a "sidekick" t-shirt, with the Hero By Night placing a hand on my shoulder as I hold a fist in front of me...Aw, screw it, I'll just have to upload a picture of it soon. After penciling it in blue, DJ inked and work and told me I was the only fan he had ever drawn on his knees for before, and told me I could tell my friends that. I asked him to just mention that underneath the panel and he did, and signed it. Of course, I got a protective cover to put it and the other signed stuff in. XD
Other signings included one from Terry Moore with a Strangers In Paradise image, sold by the comic book legal defense fund. Of course, it wasn't the original, but it was a limited run (I'd have to look at the slip to see what the exact number was though...). For only $15 I considered it a steal, seeing as I love the guy's work so much, it was signed after the printing, and it also supported an organization that I whole-heartedly supported as well. Everyone won in that situation, at least to me. XD I also got a free Beetle Bailey sketch and signature from Mort Walker! Along with Mike Mignola and the others I mentioned in the Comic Con News journal, there were a few others, but I'd have to look at them again to remind myself who they were. They weren't major though, but the particular images I got I liked, and were of a decent price. I also bought quite a few more books, but I don't suppose most of you would like to hear my recommendations, would you?
So, I've covered some musings, both given inquiries and asked for them, what else was left? ... Oh, right, notifications! Let's see... My sister is getting married on Saturday, and the rehearsal is Friday. My younger brother and I will be groomsmen. The guy is a bit of a geek like me, and I think that they'll be happy together if they can get things together financially before their baby is due. In other news, I'm planning to move out to Seattle in about 18 months. For various reasons. I intend to move with both my parents and my younger brother, keeping the same or a similar living arrangement to how we live currently, and I'll have my college loan paid off within a year or two from when we move out there. My brother isn't leaning towards the move, but he'll be eighteen by then, so if he can get his act together before then and get a job and place to stay, he's welcome to try to carve his own destiny out here in frigid Minnesota. But I'm not going to help him out much, except perhaps moral support over the phone or email. Another thing of note, at least to me: I'm revising a story I started after a sophomore project in high school. I am writing either the first novella in a series, or the first novel in a series. It all really depends on how long it ends up being when it is finished. It is currently almost 11,000 words, and about 33 pages long (double-spaced) at the time of this post. What genre is it? What is it about? Well, for various reasons, including but not limited to not having it copywriter yet since it's not finished, I won't give out too many details. But, to classify it into a genre, it is a science-fiction colonial-steampunk, high-science-fantasy, adventure, rite-of-passage drama. Uh, is that specific enough? XD If it sounds interesting, look out for it when I've got it ready for publishing.
As for the book I am reading, the full title is "563 Stupid Things People Do To Mess Up Their Lives", it is written by Larry Samuel for Barnes and Nobel, and I picked it up yesterday at Goodwill for a dollar. Although I don't personally agree with everything listed in there, many are insightful, and the way they are described is quite humorous. While also there I picked up a t-shirt in my size for two dollars that says, "as a matter of fact, the world does revolve around me."
